Hello,
I can not believe that summer is almost over. In the last few sessions we have discussed assessment and nursing diagnosis. During the last blog you were asked to create your own assessment sheet for a head to toe assessment. I enjoyed looking through your papers. You all did a very good job. Before we move onto nursing intervention ans evaluation, I thought is was important to show you a video of a head to toe assessment. Please check it out and let me know what you think!

Nursing Diagnosis
Welcome to our second blogging session. Today we will be reviewing the importance of nursing diagnosis in the nursing profession. Accoridng to Yont, Khorshid, & Eser (2009) "Nursing diagnoses ensure that nurses use a professional language in the determination of standards for information sharing, organizing information, decision making, nursing practice, and designating appropriate patient outcomes," (p. 163). Nursing diagnosis play an important role in the nursing process. In the last post we discussed the assessment aspect of the nursing process. This week will be looking at the diagnosis process. Nursing diagnosis play a major role in the nursing process when deciding on a plan of care for the patient. Please read the following article and post your thoughts and ideas on the blog. It is important for students to become aware of the nursing diagnosis and apply them to their clinical experience. Nursing diagnosis can be used to prioritize nursing care plans based on pain, infections, nutritional imbalance, and other health care deficits that are seen in their patients. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have!

Assignment
The assessment process is a very important part of the nursing process. According to Broom (2007) "Assessment is a fundamental nursing skill that underpins decisions about interventions and priorities in care delivery," (p. 22). Please read and review the article Exploring the assessment process by Mark Broom. During this week we will look and examine the assessment process in relation to the nursing process. Assessment skills help aid in determining a care plan for the patient as well as the family involved. The assessment process plays a major role in the development of the nursing process. Students must become familiar with their assessment skills to develop their skills in the nursing process. Please post your comments and concerns that need to be evaluated.
